Genre terms : Making the switch to LCGFT

In 2007, the Library of Congress began to develop genre/form terms separately from subject headings. These terms are not a part of the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). Instead they are their own list known as Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials (LCGFT). Now that the majority of projects have been completed by LC, SWAN made the decision to add these terms to our catalog. The SWAN project started in June 2016 and is still ongoing. At this session, I plan on speaking about the process being used to identify the records that either need a subject heading switched to a genre heading or just need the genre heading added. I will also address problems and issues that have come up along the way, as well as the limitations of the project.
